Your home contents insurance policy provides coverage against theft and vandalism of your bicycle

The insurance covers bikes for up to DKK 15,000 per bike. If your bike is more expensive than DKK 15,000, you can increase the cover sum to DKK 170,000.To be covered for theft, you need to meet the following requirements:

Your bike must have a Danish frame number.
You should be able to provide the bike's chassis number.
The bike must have been locked with a lock approved by varefakta.
You must have reported the theft to the police.

Home contents insurance does not cover traffic accidents

If you are involved in a traffic accident and your bicycle is damaged, your home contents insurance will not cover it. However, you can opt for "extended bicycle damage" on your home contents insurance policy to get coverage. Two options are available: "repair coverage" and "new-part coverage." You can get a free bike lock or an alarm when you purchase home contents insurance

You are eligible for a bike advantage if you purchase regular or student contents insurance from IDA Forsikring with the cover "accidents" after August 23, 2021. No extra insurance add-ons on student home contents insurance

When you purchase student home contents insurance with IDA Forsikring, you get insurance for free. However, you must pay for the home contents insurance if you want additional options, such as extended bike repair or coverage for bikes that cost more than DKK 15,000.

Does home contents insurance cover my e-bike?

If your e-bike's maximum speed is 25 km/h, it is covered by home insurance, just like a regular bike. However, you will need special liability insurance if you own a Speed Pedelec e-bike or any other e-bike that can go faster than 25 km/h. This insurance can be obtained by purchasing moped insurance. You have an accident or fall over on your bike

If you have "accident" coverage on your home contents insurance and purchased the insurance after August 23, 2021, you can get coverage for damage after a traffic accident. You are suddenly off balance and fall with the airbag

If your bicycle helmet's airbag deploys due to a fall, your home contents insurance will cover the damages as follows:

For policies purchased after August 23, 2021, you will be covered if you have selected "accidents" on your home contents insurance. In this case, the excess will be subtracted from the compensation.
For policies purchased before August 23, 2021, you will be covered if you have selected "sudden damage" on your home contents insurance. Here again, the excess will be subtracted from the compensation.

I bought my bike abroad

If you bought your bicycle from abroad, the bike must have a Danish frame number. Please comply with this to avoid not being compensated for theft. It is important to note that if the chassis number is present on the receipt, you must note it. It will help you inform the police if someone steals your bike.

Bicycles without a Danish frame number

If your bike does not have a Danish frame number, it must have a police frame number. You can obtain it at your nearest police station. Afterwards, it would be best if you visited a bike dealer to have your bike labelled with the frame number.If your bicycle has a full carbon frame, its chassis number cannot be engraved. Instead, it must be affixed to the bike using adhesive.

Foreign bicycle lock: This is what you should do

If you purchase a bicycle lock from abroad or an online retailer, it is essential to ensure it is approved. You must write the bike's chassis number on the lock certificate that comes with the lock.
