Skiing holiday: Insurance coverage explained

The following insurance policies provide coverage for your ski holiday

Travel Insurance:

The EU Blue Card covers medical and hospital care in EU/EEA countries (Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland) but does not cover everything.

Travel Insurance helps if you need to be transported home to Denmark after an injury, an illness ruins your holiday, you experience luggage delay, or you travel outside Europe.

You can supplement your travel insurance with additional cover:

  • Cancellation coverage covers you if you need to cancel your trip due to illness or injury before departure. If you purchased your travel insurance after 1 June 2022, you must buy cancellation cover before you purchase the trip. If you purchased your travel insurance before 1 June 2022, you must buy cancellation cover at least 12 days before departure for it to apply.
  • If you purchased your travel insurance after 9 June 2026, you must ensure that your policy covers ski trips. You can do this by adding the options "Ski injury" and "Ski ruined travel days" to your policy.
Ski injury covers treatment for injuries sustained while skiing or snowboarding, including medical treatment and repatriation. Ski Ruined Travel Days provides cover for lost holiday days following a skiing or snowboarding accident. You can view your policy on My Page.
  • If you purchased your travel insurance after 1 June 2022 and before 9 June 2026, you can purchase the optional cover "Ruined active holiday", which covers lost travel days if you sustain an injury while skiing or snowboarding.
  • If you purchased your travel insurance before 1 June 2022, you can purchase the add-on "Ski holiday supplement". This covers a replacement trip or compensation for lost travel days if you sustain an injury while skiing or snowboarding.

Home Contents Insurance:

Your Home Contents Insurance covers:

  • The liability part covers if you rent ski equipment and accidentally damage it.
  • It also covers if you injure other people or damage their equipment on the piste.
  • The insurance also covers theft of your equipment, rented equipment or snowboard, sudden damage, or loss in transit. There is also the option to get coverage if the ski equipment is accidentally damaged. Check whether your insurance covers sudden damage or an accident to get coverage. You can see the sum insured on your insurance policy.

Your parents' Home Contents Insurance will protect you until you reach 18 years of age.

It's important to note that some EU countries require liability coverage for ski holidays, typically included in your existing Home Contents Insurance policy.

Please message us with your departure and return dates if you require confirmation of your liability coverage. We'll be happy to assist you.

Avoid injuries on your ski holiday.

Please ensure that you have the appropriate safety equipment when skiing, as it reduces the risk of injury.

Whether you are an experienced skier or a beginner, an adult or a child, wearing an approved ski helmet, back protector, and goggles is highly recommended.

Additionally, if you are a beginner snowboarder, please use wrist guards to prevent potential wrist injuries.

In addition, the following aspects prevent ski injuries:

  • Good physical condition.
  • Good knowledge of the piste rules.
  • Right ski fitting. If a ski binding is too tight, the ski will not release the boot during a fall. If necessary, get help from the rental or ski shop to adjust them adequately.

Take care of your skis or snowboard.

Are you travelling with your skis or snowboard? Prevent theft. Buy a lock to secure your equipment while having lunch on the piste.
