Supplemental Unemployment Insurance provides additional financial support if you become involuntarily unemployed. As a member of a Danish unemployment fund (A-kasse), you are entitled to unemployment benefits, but for many people, these benefits may not be enough to cover their regular expenses.
Supplemental Unemployment Insurance therefore provides an additional financial safety net if you lose your job through no fault of your own.
If you become unemployed and qualify for cover, you receive monthly payments from your insurance. The amount you receive depends on factors including:

You can receive up to 90% of your current gross salary after Labour Market Contribution (AM-bidrag). Your gross salary includes commission, bonuses, company car and company phone.
There is a one-month excess period, and payments are made in arrears. This means that your first payment will be made two months after your first day of unemployment.
Remember that you can deduct the cost of your Supplemental Unemployment Insurance from your taxable income.
You can change jobs and remain covered, as long as there is no more than a 14-day gap between jobs. If you are out of work for more than 14 days, you must have been continuously employed for at least 12 months.
This means that if you start your new job within 14 days of leaving your previous one, your insurance covers you from your first day in the new job. However, you must have been employed for at least 12 months before you can receive your first payment.
If you change jobs, contact Topdanmark Supplemental Unemployment Insurance on +45 44 74 35 50, or update your details through My Supplemental Unemployment Insurance.

Moving your Supplemental Unemployment Insurance to IDA Forsikring is straightforward. However, if you already have similar insurance elsewhere, you must cancel your existing policy yourself.
If you previously had Supplemental Unemployment Insurance with another insurer, you do not need to provide details of your previous qualifying period when taking out the new insurance. However, you should keep documentation of your previous cover in case Topdanmark needs it later.
Remember to cancel your existing policy when taking out your new insurance with us. The cancellation should take effect on the same date as your new policy begins, usually on the first day of the following month.
This helps you avoid paying for two policies at the same time or losing the qualifying period you have built up under your previous policy.
IDA Forsikring offers Supplemental Unemployment Insurance in partnership with Topdanmark. You can therefore view and manage your insurance through My Topdanmark.
