When you buy a bicycle on the internet from a foreign country, the bike has not a Danish serial number.If you want compensation due to theft, then you need a serial number registered by the Danish police.Whether you bought your bicycle in Denmark or abroad, your bicycle has to wear a serial number. Please write that number on your receipt and keep it. If your bike gets stolen, you can always contact the police knowing the serial number.Foreign bicycle without serial number
If the bicycle you bought abroad has not a serial number, you have to go to the police station to get a ‘politistelnummer’ (Danish serial number). You need then a retailer to mark your bicycle.
If you bought a bicycle that can’t be marked (for instance, made of full carbon), the retailer will mark your bicycle with a sticker under a layer of lacquer.A foreign lock
If you buy a foreign bicycle lock, you have to be sure that your lock is approved by the authorities. You should get a certificate when you buy one.
