Essential Information About Cat Insurance

Caring for a sick cat can be expensive, but cat insurance provides financial assistance. Here are answers to all your cat insurance questions.

What is a Cat Insurance? How does insurance cover damage or illness

What is cat insurance?

Cat insurance provides financial coverage if your cat falls ill or is involved in an accident. It is not mandatory, but it can offer crucial financial assistance for cat owners who want to ensure they can afford necessary treatments and veterinary care.

Could I obtain liability coverage for my cat?

If you have IDA Home Contents Insurance, you are covered by liability coverage as part of the standard policy. This inclusion means you are covered if your cat damages other people's belongings or furniture. For instance, if your cat destroys part of your neighbour's fence, you will receive financial assistance to repair the damage. However, liability coverage does not apply if your cat damages your belongings.

How does the standard insurance coverage work?

Cat insurance covers 'illness and accident', providing financial security if your cat becomes ill or has an accident. The insurance covers examination, treatment, surgery, and hospitalisation with a veterinarian. You will also be covered for X-rays, ultrasound, MRI, and CT scans.Suppose your cat needs to see a doctor in the evening, on weekends, or on holidays. In that case, the insurance covers the on-call supplement required by the veterinarian for consultations and treatments outside regular opening hours.

Explore additional insurance options that provide extra coverage for your cat

Would you like to enhance your cat's coverage? You can add optional insurance supplements to the standard coverage. Find out more below.

Physical treatment

With the option 'Physical treatment', you will be covered if your cat needs rehabilitation after illness or accident. It can be rehabilitation with chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture or laser therapy.

Teeth and medications

If you buy the option 'Teeth and medicine,' you will be covered for treating several known dental diseases. This coverage applies, among other things, to tooth resorptions, a common dental and oral cavity disease in cats.

Pet travel buddy

Are you planning to take your cat abroad? If so, you are covered for trips of up to three months with the 'Pet travel buddy' option. This coverage ensures, among other things, treatment for your cat at an animal hospital abroad if needed. If you are hospitalised abroad, have travel insurance with you. This way, you can ensure that your cat is taken care of or transported home if you are still hospitalised and unable to care for it in the country you are visiting.

Care

This option covers the costs of having your cat looked after if you or your partner dies or is hospitalised in Denmark. The coverage is valid for 30 days in the event of hospitalisation and 60 days in the event of death.

Life coverage

If your cat needs to be put down or dies due to illness or an accident, you can get a kitten of the same breed and breeding quality with the "Life Coverage" option or receive your insured sum. For more information about the available coverages, please visit this link.

Is there a difference in insurance coverage and excess if I have an outdoor cat?

Your insurance coverage applies equally to both indoor and outdoor cats. There is one exception, however: If your outdoor cat is hit by a car, passes away, or needs to be euthanised, you will receive only 50% of the amount required to obtain a new kitten of the same breed.
