Yes, you can, but you will have to wait until the official registration goes through with the name of the new owner or SKAT has surrendered (cancelled or removed) the number plates. You can contact us approximately four working days after you have sold the car. By then, one of these two conditions should be in place.
However, the procedure for cancelling your Car Insurance depends on whether you sell the car to a private buyer or a dealer.
The car dealer will transfer the registration of the car at SKAT. However, you have to verify it within four working days from the date of the sale.
It is also possible to send the Vehicle Purchase Agreement (slutseddel) to SKAT if the car dealer does not comply with the four working days deadline. SKAT will then update the registration of the car.

If you have sold your car to a private buyer, the new owner has to register the vehicle within four working days from the date of sale. When you and the buyer sign a Vehicle Purchase Agreement, you can update and transfer the car registration together at SKAT.

Once the paperwork is over, you must contact IDA Forsikring after a couple of days and request the cancellation of your Car Insurance.
Like a car dealer, a private buyer has four working days from the date of sale to register the vehicle. If this has not happened, please get in touch with SKAT.
If the new buyer has not registered the car within four working days, please get in touch with SKAT and request that they do it for you. You are liable for taxes and car insurance coverage as long as the registration is in your name. For this reason, you should update the car registration with the buyer after you have signed the Vehicle Purchase Agreement.

Next, you must contact IDA Forsikring a couple of days after the car has been registered with the buyer. That way, we can cancel your insurance and reimburse you for any excess back.
If you find another insurance provider and want to cancel your Car Insurance with us, they must send us a written request to cancel and take over your policy.
