Questions: moped insurance

What is moped insurance?

Moped insurance provides coverage for moped owners and drivers, offering comprehensive protection in case of an accident.

What does moped insurance cover?

Moped insurance includes mandatory liability coverage. You are responsible for paying for the damages if you accidentally injure other people or damage their property or vehicles while riding the moped.

With moped insurance, you can avoid paying for these damages out of your pocket.

What does the insurance not cover?

In general, regular insurance does not cover damage to your moped. You need comprehensive coverage to receive compensation if your moped is damaged.

Comprehensive coverage, which provides extra security, can be purchased as an option. The moped insurance page has more information about this.

Do I need to buy insurance for my moped?

If you own a moped, it is mandatory to buy liability insurance. This insurance is necessary to cover compensation if you injure others, for example, in a traffic accident. The same applies if you accidentally crash into a car, motorcycle, or any other vehicle.

Additionally, you are responsible for compensating for any damage caused to other people's property. This compensation could include clothes or other belongings damaged in a collision involving your moped.

Can moped insurance cover my Speed Pedelec e-bike?

Yes, a Speed Pedelec e-bike is equivalent to a moped or motorcycle since it can travel up to 45 km/h. Therefore, it is covered by moped insurance.

Can I insure my scooter?

You can easily insure your scooter, whether a moped 30, 45, or a regular scooter. Moped insurance covers all three types.

How high is the excess on moped insurance?

You are not required to pay any excess for moped insurance, as it only covers liability. If you choose comprehensive coverage, the excess will be DKK 1,000.

My child under 18 has a moped – how do I insure it?

Children under the age of 18 are unable to purchase insurance on their own. Therefore, you must set up the insurance in your name as a parent.

What are the distinctions between a moped 30 and a moped 45?

Moped 30 and 45 differ primarily in four of the following respects.

Moped 30:

  • Features a yellow license plate with two letters followed by four numbers.
  • Has a maximum speed of 30 km/h.
  • It should not be driven on the road if there is a cycle path.
  • Also known as a 'moped 30', 'Small moped', or 'Ordinary moped'.

Moped 45:

  • Comes with a white license plate with two letters followed by three numbers.
  • Must not exceed the speed of 45 km/h.
  • It should always be driven on the road.
  • Also known as a 'moped 45', 'large moped', or 'EU moped'.

All mopeds purchased after 2006 are required to have a license plate. However, if you bought your moped before 2006, it may not have a license plate.
