Is it mandatory to buy dog owner liability? Do you need to supplement with extended coverage?

Find answers to our most frequently asked questions about dog owners insurance

What is dog insurance?

Dog insurance is a mandatory insurance policy for all dog owners. It provides financial assistance if your dog causes injuries or accidents.

Dog insurance includes dog liability coverage, which applies if your dog bites another dog or damages other people's property, covering your liabilities as a dog owner.

How is my dog covered?

At IDA Forsikring, with dog insurance, you get your dog thoroughly covered with our standard coverage.

Dog liability insurance is included in the standard coverage and covers you and your dog well. The coverage also consists of the following:

  • Injury to dog trainers
  • Injury to dog sitters
  • Injury to your children
  • Injury to household helpers
  • Can I get additional coverage?

If you require additional coverage, you can enhance it with add-ons, which you can customise according to your dog's specific needs.

What do I do if my dog gets sick?

You can buy insurance covering your dog for illness, afflictions, and treatment, for instance:

  • With the "Illness and Accident" option, you will be covered for examination, treatment, and surgery costs.
  • The "Treatment and Rehabilitation" option covers rehabilitation after illness or accident.
  • If you insure your dog with the "Teeth and Medicine" option, the insurance will cover tooth fractures and root canal filling.

What should I do if my dog gets sick during a trip?

The "Travel Buddy Pet" option is designed for those who frequently travel with their dogs. This insurance covers emergency treatment for your dog abroad and expenses if your dog needs to be hospitalised while overseas.

If your dog is hospitalised and you must extend your trip, the insurance will cover the accommodation cost for one adult and one minor travelling companion.

What should I do to ensure my dog is cared for if I am hospitalised overseas?

The dog insurance does not cover your dog if you become ill and are admitted to a hospital during your trip. In this situation, it would be best to have travel insurance, as it covers yourself and provides help for your dog. With this option, you can have your dog looked after while you are hospitalised.

If it's impossible to care for your dog in the country you are visiting, you will be covered for its repatriation.

How do I cancel dog insurance if my dog has died?

We will cancel your dog insurance if your dog passes away. However, it would be best to inform us when your dog has died. You can do this by writing to us or calling us at 70210191.
