What should I do if I have a car accident?

If you are involved in a car accident, for instance, in a parking lot, you must call 112 if someone needs urgent help because of an injury or an immediate danger. Once you have done it, please proceed and collect the following information:
  • The names and telephone numbers of the people involved.
  • The license plates of the cars involved.
  • The insurance providers of the involved parties.
  • Take pictures of the damage.
If you do not have information about the other party, please indicate this when you contact our claim department at Tryg. Please, contact roadside assistance if the car damage is extensive and you cannot continue. It is also imperative to keep the road clear, if you can, push the car to the sideroad.File the claim as soon as possible. It is easier to remember what happened with a fresh memory.

Does excess apply to all Car Insurance claims?

Suppose you have added Excess Free to your IDA Car Insurance. In that case, no insurance excess will apply if you file a claim - for which you are not legally responsible - involving fire, vandalism, collision with animals, explosion, lightning, theft or falling. You need Comprehensive coverage to buy this insurance add-on. To understand the relation between Comprehensive, Excess Free and when an excess applies, please read the following points:
  • Comprehensive coverage would also protect against the aforementioned perils, but unlike Excess Free, they will affect your no-claim record, and you will have to pay the excess if you have one. However, no excess applies if you -having Comprehensive coverage- are liable for hurting someone or damaging others' property but do not report damages that affect you or your car. It is because they are exclusively related to Liability coverage.
  • If you do, and you have selected an insurance excess to your policy, then that amount would exclusively apply to the Comprehensive damage to your vehicle. Again, not to Liability coverage when you hurt others or damage other's property.
  • A DKK1500 excess will always apply to a new windshield.
These are some defining features of the new IDA Car Insurance (terms and conditions no. 22I3).

What are the consequences of filing a claim on your Car Insurance?

If you have one claim staying on your driving record and buy a new car within three years, you must declare it when you take out new insurance. It will affect the insurance rate of your new insurance policy. It only disappears after three years and another car. Please bear one thing in mind: a violation affecting your no-claim record will only affect your future Car Insurance. Your current Car Insurance stays the same, and the rate will not increase.

What is a serious claim?

A claim becomes a violation when you do not have Excess Free and pay an excess or get compensation for a settled claim. A Free Excess claim can be, for example, a collision with a deer, vandalism, or a falling object on your car. If you have Comprehensive coverage, you can buy and add it to your policy.

Can the workshop use non-original or used spare parts when your IDA Car Insurance covers repair expenses?

The answer is yes. IDA Forsikring, as the insurer, is obliged to leave the car in the same functional condition as before the accident. If it is possible to do it safely using non-original or used spare parts, then the workshop will use them. You can always decline an assigned repair concerning the car, accessories, additional accessories, spare parts, or tools. Instead, you can receive financial compensation equal to the price of our previously arranged repair.

Does IDA Car Insurance provide a loaner car from the workshop while they repair mine?

If you have Comprehensive coverage with us and it needs repairs, Tryg Reparation provides a loaner car. To get one, you must use a Tryg workshop.Read more about loaner cars and workshops on tryg.dk
