The green card

If you are driving abroad, please carry the green card with you. Read here which countries we recommend you to bring the card to.

The card is your proof that the car is covered with liability insurance. If you do not have the card with you, you may be detained by the local police. It is never a pleasant experience, and it may take several hours before you are allowed to continue.

Bring the card if you drive to:

  • Albania*
  • Azerbaijan
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • F.Y.R.O.M. (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia)
  • Belarus
  • Iran
  • Israel
  • Morocco
  • Moldavia
  • Montenegro
  • Russia
  • Serbia
  • Tunisia
  • Turkey
  • Ukraine
*The Albanian part of Kosovo does not accept the green card. Therefore, it is important that you take out liability insurance at the border when you enter Kosovo. If you do not buy one, there is a risk that you will be detained if you get involved in a traffic accident.

Order the card in advance

There is an expedition period of to three weeks. For that reason, please make always sure to order the green card in advance.

Remember the vehicle registration certificate

In addition to the green card, please bring along your car's registration certificate or a copy of it. We recommend that you keep the registration certificate on you all the time and never leave it in the car.
