What do you need help with?

  • What is a home contents insurance?
  • What does liability cover mean?

Liability cover/liability insurance covers your liability if you cause damage to other people and things. We cover personal damage up to 10 million kroner, while personal possessions are covered by up to 2 million kroner. Please note that the insurance doesn’t cover if you hire or borrow vehicles, as these must be covered by mandatory insurance.

  • Are bicycles covered by home contents insurance?

It is your home contents insurance that covers if your bicycle is stolen or exposed to vandalism. The insurance has a standard sum of bicycles up to DKK 13.359 (2019). If your bicycle is worth more, we recommend increasing the sum up to DKK 27,832 or 55,665 kr. (2019).

In a traffic accident, your home contents insurance does not cover your bike but only your personal items that may be damaged during the accident. You need to take out 'Extended Bicycle' as an optional covering to cover damage to the bicycle itself in connection with the accident.

  • Is a drone covered on my insurance?

For example, if your drone is stolen or damage by fire, it will be covered by your Home Contents Insurance. However, a drone must weigh less than 7 kg and exclusively be a hobby.

    Liability Claims
IDA's Home Contents Insurance includes liability that usually covers damages you will incur on other persons or their property. If you fly with your drone and hurt someone or damage this person's property, we will not cover liability if your drone weighs more than 250 grams. If this is the case, then you must purchase a liability insurance as larger drones are included in the Civil Aviation Act. You can do this for example at Modelflyvning Danmark.

  • Will my home contents be compensated at replacement value or fair value?

Your home contents are compensated at fair value. Fair value means that we compensate your contents at the replacement price minus any deterioration in value due to age and wear and tear.

For example: if your 5-year old handbag is stolen, you will receive compensation that corresponds to the price of the bag today minus an amount corresponding to 5 years of wear and tear.

For bikes, electrical applications, IT equipment and glasses, your compensation is based on a depreciation table. For example, if you want compensation for an older bike, you will receive the price of the bike as new. The amount is depreciated by a certain percentage, depending on how old the bike is.

Your Home Contents Insurance will cover if your luggage has been damaged or stolen in a flight. For example, your suitcase, stroller or your skis may be damaged when the flight crew carry it from the plane to the baggage carousel.

    How to report a claim

    • When you arrive at your destination and discover the damage, you must fill up a damage report (also known as a PIR report) at the airline. We need the report as evidence in a reported claim.
    • Report a claim
    • Once you have reported your claim, you must write to the airline with your demand for compensation within seven days after the baggage has been damaged.
