Is my child covered by eg the school and other institutions' insurance?

No. Previously, your child was covered by a public accident insurance, but this is not the case anymore. It is now more important than ever to have a private accident insurance covering your child if he or she is injured or gets ill. Child Insurance covers your child 24/7 - also in school and other institutions.

Does child insurance cover extreme sports?

Yes. All children under the age of 18 with child insurance are automatically covered by all kinds of sports without extra cost. However, you should be aware that dental trauma caused by martial arts is not covered.
If your child is over the age of 18, you should take out Extreme Sports as additional option, for instance when your child is a member of a club and practice a sport categorized as Extreme.
